Aspiring service dog trainers prepare for the career by enrolling in formal classes and certificate programs offered at community colleges, universities, and service dog training schools. Duration and intensity of training vary by program. Some courses last only a couple of days and present basic techniques, while others entail several months of advanced practice and introduce theories of service dog training. According to Assistance Dogs International, Inc., programs promising to teach dog training in a few weeks will not provide the level of training required to become a certified dog trainer. Reputable programs take 2-3 years and require an apprenticeship period.

Adult Dog Level 1

Adult Dog Level 2
For dogs that have graduated from Adult Dog Level 1
This 6-week group class expands on lessons learned in Level 1, introduces distractions so your dog will learn to listen in any situation and teaches you fun games to play with dogs of any age.
Canine Good Citizen Class
For dogs that have graduated from Adult Dog Level 2
The American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (AKC CGC) certification is recognized as a high standard of dog behavior and is an excellent way to prepare for therapy dog training. This training class prepares you and your dog to take the AKC CGC test as well as improve on behaviors already learned.
Adult Dog Essentials Package
